Bio
Sistah LaLa (La’Shelle Allen) is a classically trained Contralto who has been sharing her gifts with the world for over three decades She has participated in national and international tours singing many genres of music including Spirituals, Opera, Jazz, and Gospel. Her recent engagements include performances with The Metropolitan Opera, Opera Theatre St. Louis, The Atlanta Opera, The Royal Danish Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago and Houston Grand Opera.
Sistah LaLa began her professional career with the Harlem Spiritual Ensemble. Her later work with The American Spiritual Ensemble further ignited her passion to share this music and her gifts with the world. Recently, she has partnered with both Cincinnati Opera and Kentucky Opera to facilitate community and educational outreach programs centered on the importance of the American Negro Spiritual in the 21st century.
Spirituals In Motion is Sistah LaLa’s response to the call of the Ancestors. Using the history, and power of this work, she is on a mission to use her talents to inspire, educate and galvanize others through music. She brings a message of perseverance, courage, and joy to audiences. In addition to her community outreach work, Sistah LaLa and Spirituals In Motion have been featured in performance with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, The American Spiritual Ensemble, Opera Goes to Church, Asbury College and as part of the educational outreach programs of both Cincinnati Opera and Kentucky Opera.
Sistah LaLa is currently on tour bringing Spirituals In Motion to a world-wide audience.
